OUR VALUES

Our Values are not just a poster on the wall, these guiding principles are embedded in everything we do and how we do it. Our governance structure, and the work around each project, convening, and initiative is tied deeply to these values. Even each project charter we create as a team ties the work back to these values.

We value...

Empowering others with collaborative tools and principles

We train and provide tools to other capacity builders and community members to be more collaborative and ultimately work better together.

Embedding innovation and iteration in everything we do

Embrace unconventional approaches by continuously experimenting, gathering feedback, and refining our efforts to achieve even better results.

Relational work

Prioritizing strong relationships in every aspect of our work, fostering trust, collaboration, and mutual growth.

Strategy and work decided by the grassroots community

Our work is driven by our community and the data we collect, not by top-down directives, ensuring we steward those who matter most.

The ripple effect of our impact

Our work creates lasting positive change that extends beyond immediate results, influencing the broader community and future outcomes.

... as well as

Meaningful engagement with the broader community

We identify and address barriers to participation, measure success by engagement, and ensure meaningful inclusion of underserved groups.

Work that is sustained by community

Our work is self-sustaining, relying on community support rather than individual components or people.

Decentralized decision-making

Decision-making is equitably distributed in communities.

Collaborative stewardship

Shared responsibility where collaboration and collective principles guide our actions and stewardship.

Storytelling

We harness the power of purposeful storytelling to inspire, connect, and drive meaningful change.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to amplify courageous actions in Alberta communities for equitable prosperity. Let's break this down.

Amplify

We aren’t an organization with a menu of programs and services. We aim to strengthen the work of others, create space for it to thrive, and foster growth through collaboration.

Courageous Actions

Nobody wants jargon, this is our way of naming our commitment to innovative, new ways of doing things knowing those aren’t the words everyone uses. We are looking to amplify the status quo, we are looking to explore the unconventional and experimental!

Alberta Communities

...And we mean ALL Alberta communities, and ALL Albertan’s.  Our work, our strategy, and our mandate are driven BY community.  Urban.  Rural.  Remote.  We aim to engage all Albertan’s.

Equitable Prosperity

At the end of the day, if our neighbhour is thriving, we are thriving. By equitable prosperity, we mean that Alberta is a place where ALL Albertan’s and ALL Alberta communities have access to what they need to thrive.

Our Roots

Flourish Alberta is built from the work, experience, lessons, and mandates of what were formerly three initiatives in Alberta, AB Seed, ABSI Connect, and the Centre for Social Impact Technology. We honour the significance and community behind these organizations in the work we do today.

Want to Know More?

Still curious? See below for some common questions we get asked about Flourish Alberta and the work we do!
Who do we support?

We do this for those engaged in community where innovation, entrepreneurship, and/or technology intersect with social impact

What is our goal?

We aim to support the work being done by Alberta Regions and identify and amplify common strategies at provincial and multi-regional levels.

What actions do we look for in our community?

We amplify actions that:
Make innovative, business, and technological models, tools, and best practices accessible, understandable, and usable by social impact-focused individuals, organizations, and communities.

Connect social impact-focused individuals, organizations, and communities with each other & the broader communities.

Connect social impact innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology communities with each other.

What is our governance structure?

The group that brought Flourish Alberta to be was made up of members from the 3 preceding organizations (AB Seed, ABSI Connect, and Centre for Social Impact Technology)  This was a lengthy process with a strong intention to learn from the governance experiences and struggles of each of these initiatives, and build something that was truly collaborative in nature, and had the potential to be sustainable long term.  Much of this can be found embedded in our values and also led to our unique governance structure.  While, like everything we do, this structure is iterative and adapting as we learn and grow, we are aiming to operate truly as a collaborative, held accountable by our membership and the broader community.
